Grown Inspiration...
The idea for GROWN and the GROWN VISION™ project was developed in the winter of 2010 by a passionate group of surfers and water dogs along the beaches of Byron Bay, Australia. The idea was simple: to design, produce and provide Original, Organic and Sustainable wooden eyewear that looks great and 'does good'. After crafting some early prototypes, we decided that to be truly proud of this, we needed to be sustainable and environmentally responsible before all else, and use only materials that reflect these principles.
Being first inspired by the selfless acts of Fred Hollows, we began to create a socially responsible business model that would allow us to do what we love while redistributing profits towards funding meaningful and life-changing efforts. We decided to support the 'Gift of Sight' programs which are run by both the Fred Hollows Foundation (Australia) and SEVA Canada. Read more about the Grown Vision™
When you make a purchase, we want it to mean Something More. We want you to know that your choice has made a deep and meaningful impact on the planet and to at least one person. That is why we have put so much thought towards our conscious capitalism approach and decided to redistribute profits towards something that is meaningful to us. For every purchase that is made, sight-restoring surgery for 1 individual or diagnostic eye examinations for 12 children will be fully funded by GROWN. By simply sharing our story and telling 1 friend, You can be the spark in a chain of events that restores sight to thousands of people! Doesn't that feel great? This is the change we want to see in the World.
Product Materials and Standards
Our sunglasses are handcrafted from durable Bamboo and hardwoods such as Du Lei and Zebrawood. All of the natural materials used are organic, renewable and free from harmful or toxic elements. Because Grown eyewear is made from bamboo or wood, each pair has a completely unique grain pattern, and no two pairs are identical.
As a standard, all Grown wooden eyewear comes with premium German Silver spring hinges and European standard (CE) UV 400 (100% UVA/UVB) Polarized lenses. These are designed for both the comfort and preservation of your eyes by helping protect against cataracts. The TAC Lenses are stable in hot, cold and humid weather conditions and eliminate visible glare (both atmospheric and reflective) to improve sharpness and make colors more vibrant.
